A Paper Vest & Celebration Song: Our Uniform & Music Commissions
DNJ Paper and Deborah Cheetham Fraillon AO are our MPavilion 10 Uniform and Music Commissions.
Led by designers Daphne Mohajer va Pesaran and Jake Nakashima-Edwards, DNJ Paper will craft uniforms from linen and washi for our team. Yorta Yorta woman, soprano and Short Black Opera Artistic Director Cheetham Fraillon will compose a new work for the Wominjeka Song Cycle to debut at the season’s opening.
‘The Wominjeka Song Cycle is a significant commission which Deborah has grown and evolved in concert with MPavilion over the past decade. Each song sonically represents a particular pavilion; together the cycle celebrates an enduring yet dynamic place and the knowledge we share and create in it,’ said Naomi Milgrom AC, commissioner of MPavilion.
‘We are always thrilled to uncover new designers to partner with on the creation of our uniform. DNJ Paper was chosen for the unique synergies they share with this year’s architect – their combination of natural materials with minimalist structure thoughtfully reflects Tadao Ando’s values and ideas.’
Can’t wait? View our Uniform in DNJ Paper’s Kamiko: Five Paper Coats exhibition at Craft Victoria from 14 September – 29 October and last year’s Song Cycle performance at Melbourne Recital Centre thanks to our friends at Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Just 77 days until we’re back together in the Gardens.
