Michael Gentle

Michael is a curator and writer in Naarm currently working at the State Library of Victoria and ArtsHub.

A Noongar man with ancestral connections to Minang Boodjar, he is excited by contemporary art and design that resists categorisation and makes fun of what is considered normative.

Through his practice, Michael intends to facilitate spaces that are charged with passion and community – elevating voices that have historically been drowned out.

SAMANTHA CHOUDHURY

With over 15 years’ experience in Australia and the US, Samantha is a passionate urbanist whose interest lies in creating prosperous places that matter and that people can connect with.

She has a background in urban and social planning and community development, with a speciality in participatory design, and has worked on a range of urban scales including city-wide renewal and regeneration, neighbourhood revitalisation, community-led planning and placemaking, planning for mixed use and commercial environments, providing urban design advice and facilitating urban development.

Samantha is currently contracting for state and local governments, providing advice on placemaking and economic development initiatives, exploring ways to repurpose roads, public spaces and streets in a post-COVID-19 world.

ALEXANDRA LEE

Alexandra is a Registered Landscape Architect and inaugural member of the Birrarung Council.

Growing up in regional Victoria, the banks and waters of the Avon River were her childhood playground and entrenched her love of rivers.

Now working in the field of urban water management and practising as a Landscape Architect in Melbourne, Alex’s design practice focuses on mitigating the impacts of urbanisation on our environment and waterways.

She is passionate about our shared responsibility to Country and recognises the privilege of working alongside elders on the Birrarung Council to act as ‘the voice of the river’ and listening in to how to look after our Birrarung and its lands.

Wominjeka (Welcome). We acknowledge the people of the Eastern Kulin Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which MPavilion stands. We pay our respects to their Elders, past and present – and recognise they have been creating, telling stories and caring for Country for thousands of generations.
