MPavilion Season 11 Concludes with Record Visitation and Transformative Experiences at Tadao Ando’s Pavilion

MPavilion Season 11 entered its final week on Saturday 22 March 2025, marking a pivotal moment in the initiative’s legacy in Melbourne’s Queen Victoria Gardens. Tadao Ando’s award-winning pavilion has become a cultural hub, drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors over a summer season showcasing new art, design, music and ideas.
Since first opening in November 2023, MPavilion by Tadao Ando has attracted over 300,000 visitors and been recognised with ten design awards, solidifying its status globally as Australia’s most celebrated architectural and cultural destination.
Season 11 featured over 160 free events—including 55 newly commissioned projects—inviting audiences of all ages to experience architecture in new ways, from early morning design talks to experimental music at sunset, bold conversations, hands-on workshops for kids & families, and site-responsive performances and installations.
“The continued overwhelming response to Tadao Ando’s MPavilion reflects its profound impact on the city. It is a gathering place, an urban refuge, and a platform for collective creativity and new ideas. Our partners, supporters, collaborators and the people of Melbourne have embraced this space in ways that continue to surprise and inspire us.”
– Naomi Milgrom AC, commissioner of MPavilion
In the tradition of the many years of philanthropic work of Naomi Milgrom, all of the previous pavilions have been gifted and relocated to permanent homes across Melbourne and Victoria, four of which have gone to universities for the public to continue to enjoy as open, accessible community spaces.
Tadao Ando’s MPavilion has been offered as a gift to the City of Melbourne. The pavilion will close on Saturday 22 March 2025 while its future at Queen Victoria Gardens remains under consideration.
The final days of Season 11 will celebrate sound, design, and community, culminating in a special edition of Dusk til Dark—a final gathering beneath Ando’s iconic structure. Audiences can expect ambient jazz, soul-inflected grooves, and deep cosmic cuts from Albrecht La’Brooy x Corey Kikos, RAH, and Tokyo’s legendary selector Chee Shimizu. Suupaa will bring the snacks with a menu of Japanese-inspired bites, while Piccolina serves the final scoops of Escala De Cinzas (Greyscale) – João Loureiro’s beloved edible art project.
