Calling all creatives! Woven Together invites you to join together in the collective experience of making and creating with textiles. Focusing on the process rather than the outcome, teens and young adults will have access to scraps of discarded textiles and fabrics to create an accessory for the wearer, encouraging experimentation with techniques of weaving, crocheting, knitting, and boundless craft exploration. By coming together to experience a hands-on creative activity, teens enter into the lineage of social craft practices, enjoyed by makers for centuries and passed down from generation to generation.

Use the textiles provided or bring your own. Practice techniques you’re already familiar with, or try something brand new! This is up-cycling mixed with crafting mixed with boundless creative possibilities.

This event has limited capacity, so bookings will be required closer to the time. Subscribe to our newsletter to be first to know once tickets are released.

This event is an outcome of the 2023 M_Curators program, which supports young and ambitious art, design and creative workers to gain practical experience in developing and curating public events and programs.

The M_Curators program is supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies.

Collaborators:

Bianca Mercieca is an up-and-coming designer. Currently studying at RMIT University for a Bachelor of Fashion Design, her designs incorporate couture elements and influences from artistic movements. She also likes to experiment with knitwear and crochet in her work.

Grace Kop (born Watson) is an emerging curator, programmer, and arts educator working on the Wurundjeri and Bunurong lands of the Kulin Nations. Grace’s research and creative practice draws connections between historical and contemporary theories and practices by creating spaces for storytelling, listening, and shared learning. Grace graduated with her Bachelor of Art History and Curating from Monash University in 2020 and completed her honours year specialising in curation in 2021. Grace’s recent works have a deep community focus and seek to illuminate the hidden stories within Naarm/Melbourne’s vibrant and creative past and present.

Wominjeka (Welcome). We acknowledge the people of the Eastern Kulin Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which MPavilion stands. We pay our respects to their Elders, past and present – and recognise they have been creating, telling stories and caring for Country for thousands of generations.
