The act of drawing can be considered a performative action itself, considered by many artists to be the most direct form of creative expression. Exploring the relationship between performance and the practice of drawing, this event invites you to team up with the Northcote Penguins—a specialised group of seven artists and part of the Arts Project Australia studio—to collaborate on a ‘performance drawing’ at MPavilion.

Arts Project Australia is a leading studio and gallery supporting artists with an intellectual disability, promoting their work and advocating their inclusion in contemporary art practice. Based in Northcote, the studio is known globally as an innovative centre for excellence.

Wominjeka (Welcome). We acknowledge the Yaluk-ut Weelam as the traditional custodians of the land on which we meet. Yaluk-ut Weelam means ‘people of the river camp’ and is connected with the coastal land at the head of Port Phillip Bay, extending from the Werribee River to Mordialloc. The Yaluk-ut Weelam are part of the Boon Wurrung, one of the five major language groups of the greater Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to the land, their ancestors and their elders—past, present and to the future.
