Presented by Lucy Guerin Inc, LIVENESS is an exciting new program for the Melbourne dance community and dance audiences to come together and experience improvisational movement and performance in a relaxed and generous environment.

Under the guidance of experienced improvisers Rebecca Jensen and Emily Laursen, dancers will be taken through a series of structured movement tasks before the space transforms into a platform for improvisational exploration and investigation—where performers will respond to the geometric, kaleidoscopic design of the MPavilion structure, shifting light, and each other.

This performance installation invites the viewer to witness how improvisational performances are generated through imagery, scores and tasks. In this setting, relationships and meanings shift and change depending on the perspective of the viewer and the spontaneous responses between the dancers and their environment.

The program is open to practising dancers and tertiary dance students to participate.

LIVENESS was created in collaboration with Rebecca Jensen and Emily Laursen.

What to wear/bring:

  • Participants please wear runners and comfortable clothing. Please also dress for the outdoors.
  • Participants are also encouraged to please bring a bottle of water

Observers are invited to witness the performance installation from 6.30pm and are welcome to come and go freely from 6.30–8pm.
