A designer should be able to lift themselves out of their preconceived ideas, and apply open-minded design principles to any project. Conversely, designers are selected on their unique talent and experience. As designers, especially when working internationally, how do we know when to respect what’s gone before us? And when to disrupt the status quo? How do we manage the creative process and navigate the cultures of the parties that join us at the design table?

Join the Melbourne-based Lex Design Agency to explore contemporary design culture in this MTalks event as part of Melbourne Design Week. Along with Renee Ballard from Lex Design Agency, lighting designer Ilan El will join the talk.

This event is in collaboration with Design Institute of Australia.

Wominjeka (Welcome). We acknowledge the Yaluk-ut Weelam as the traditional custodians of the land on which we meet. Yaluk-ut Weelam means ‘people of the river camp’ and is connected with the coastal land at the head of Port Phillip Bay, extending from the Werribee River to Mordialloc. The Yaluk-ut Weelam are part of the Boon Wurrung, one of the five major language groups of the greater Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to the land, their ancestors and their elders—past, present and to the future.
