Omikuji puzzle cabinet maze by Hugh Davies.

Drop into MPavilion during your lunch break and hear Melbourne-based artist and academic Hugh Davies present findings from his research on Australian and Japanese independent and experimental games, developed during his residency in Tokyo in 2017. Hugh will also present research undertaken during 2018 through a fellowship at M+ and the Hong Kong Design Trust to examine how that city is architecturally represented in video games.

Hugh’s research into experimental games in the Asia Pacific region will inform the curation of an exhibition, Longitude, appearing at Library at the Dock, Docklands, in October and November, and his Longitude collaborators as well as local game developers who feature in the exhibition will be part of this MPavilion conversation. Certain to be an enlightening and entertaining discussion over a bite to eat.

Wominjeka (Welcome). We acknowledge the Yaluk-ut Weelam as the traditional custodians of the land on which we meet. Yaluk-ut Weelam means ‘people of the river camp’ and is connected with the coastal land at the head of Port Phillip Bay, extending from the Werribee River to Mordialloc. The Yaluk-ut Weelam are part of the Boon Wurrung, one of the five major language groups of the greater Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to the land, their ancestors and their elders—past, present and to the future.
