In celebration of Japanese craftmanship, join the Australian Tapestry Workshop (ATW) and Japanese textile artist Misako Nakahira for a hands-on weaving workshop. Using familiar, everyday materials such as paper, recycled fabric, and wool offcuts, you will learn techniques to create your very own striped woven creation!

This event has limited capacity, so bookings will be required closer to the time. Subscribe to our newsletter to be first to know once tickets are released.

Collaborators:

The Australian Tapestry Workshop (ATW) is a centre of textile excellence specialising in the creation of contemporary tapestries made in collaboration with living artists, designers, and architects.

Misako Nakahira is a Japanese tapestry artist and lecturer. Her work consists of paper weaving, tapestry, ikat, felting, macramé, and yarn spinning. Nakahira is interested in how her work responds to various spaces and in interrogating the genealogy of stripes through tapestry. Nakahira weaves her tapestries with spun washi paper, cotton, and other materials that are ‘familiar to life.’

Wominjeka (Welcome). We acknowledge the people of the Eastern Kulin Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which MPavilion stands. We pay our respects to their Elders, past and present – and recognise they have been creating, telling stories and caring for Country for thousands of generations.
